Tegelijk met The Specials, The Selecter, Bad Manners en Madness brak The Beat begin jaren '80 door. De band tourde over de hele wereld met o.a. David Bowie, The Police, REM, The Clash, The Talking Heads, The Pretenders en The Specials. Bekendste hits zijn "Mirror in the Bathroom", "Save it for Later", "I Confess", "Stand Down Margaret" en hun prachtige cover van Andy William's "Can't Get Used To Losing You". In 2003 kwam de band opnieuw bij elkaar. The Beat goes on!
