The Chants of Maldoror were formed in Italy 1994, named after a prose poem by Isidore Ducasse, Comte de Lautreamont (1846-1870), masterpiece of decadence and manifesto of surrealistic sadism.
June 2000 saw "Thy hurting heaven", C.o.M.'s first full-lenght cd, released through the italian label Radio Luxor, and immediately captures the press attention , presenting a new evolution in the band's songwriting, with " an elegant atmosphere of fin de siècle, cluttered rooms and secret dens of debauchery" pervading the cd, for something that has been defined as "seminal gothic rock in which the accurate and elaborate drum programming and keyboard backdrops offers an original element in the genre".
