De band Monophonics is opgegroeid te midden van de rijke muzikale cultuur in de Bay Area. Monophonics werden opgericht in 2005, oorspronkelijk een instrumentaal ensemble, maar daarna is de band uitgebreid.
Het resultaat is een psychedelische soul & heavy funk geluid, waar stijlen uit de late jaren 60 en begin 70's in terugkomen.
