Jimmy Whispers, aka James Cicero, grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, the son of Italian and Spanish Catholics. Making his name as the leader of Chicago’s atmospheric and poppy Light Pollution, Whispers then branched out on his own, a decision that eventually bore fruit with his debut album; Summer in Pain. A heartfelt and affecting record, shorn of any bluster or pretence, Summer in Pain is, according to Pitchfork, "pared down to the basics, spelling out heartbreak and frustration with a tried-and-true palette of organs, drum machines, and a world-weary tremble."
