Meer woede, hoger volume en een fikse dot lol - daar draait het om bij het Canadese Cancer Bats en hun lichtontvlambare mix van hardcore, southern metal en punkrock. Gooi Refused, Black Flag, Led Zeppelin en Down in de blender en je komt uit bij Cancer Bats. Sinds Birthing the Giant weten we dat Cancer Bats op plaat net zo niets of niemand ontziend knalt als live. Opvolger Hail Destroyer uit 2008 is op alle vlakken beter, heavier, pissiger, meer punk dan het debuut. De Britse hardcore/punkband The Ghost of a Thousand heeft sinds begin juni het nagelnieuwe album New Hopes, New Demonstrations in de rekken liggen. Het uit het Engelse Brighton afkomstige vijftal geldt sinds hun debuut, This is Where the Fight Begins uit 2007 als synoniem voor de nieuwe wind die waait in de Britse hardcore.
